Birthplace of Warren G. Harding

Warren Gamaliel Harding was born on a farm at Corsica (now Blooming Grove), Ohio, on November 2, 1865.

When he was ten, his family moved to the village of Caledonia, where both of his parents were doctors. He and his five younger siblings (four sisters and a brother) attended a one-room schoolhouse. At age fourteen, he entered Ohio Central College, from which he graduated with a B.S. degree in 1882. After college, Harding taught in a country school outside Marion, Ohio, for one term before trying his hand at law, insurance sales, and journalism for the local newspaper. In 1884, he raised $300 to purchase with two friends the nearly defunct Marion Star newspaper, which he turned into a success. He remained a Marion resident for the rest of his life, with "breaks" during his political career.

The home in which Harding was born no longer stands (when it ceased to exist, and why, is unknown). The site on which it stood is located on the north side of Ohio Route 97, 0.2 miles east of County Route 20 (Williamsport-Bloomingrove Road), and is marked with an Ohio Historical Marker.
