is situated near the center of Arlington National Cemetery, behind the Tomb of the Unknowns. The Amphitheatre is the site of the national Easter, Memorial Day and Veterans Day celebrations, and has also "hosted" the state funerals of several American military heroes.

On March 4, 1921, Congress approved the burial of an unidentified American soldier from World War I in the plaza of the new Arlington Memorial Amphitheater.
