The Voyage of the Triton In 1960 the world's largest submarine completed the first ever underwater circumnavigation of the Earth. Following a route similar to that of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, the nuclear submarine U.S.S. Triton traveled over 30,000 miles underwater after submerging at St. Paul's Rocks in the Atlantic on February 24 and surfacing at the same location on April 25. SEE ALSO |
