Civil Defense in 1958 A new family-type bomb shelter, designed by Milwaukee, Wisconsin, architect Thomas Villa, holds eight to twelve persons and can be buried for added protection. Cost runs from $1,300 to $1,400. Police round up persons who refused to take shelter during a Civil Defense alert in New York City, New York, on May 6. The persons shown entering a police van were members of a group called "Ban the Bomb," which was picketing the city's headquarters of the Atomic Energy Commission. |
