The last issue of the Daily Worker was published on January 13, 1958. The paper stated editorially that "lower party membership, diminished resources and unresolved party differences combined to bring about an unsatisfactory situation." At its peak the paper had a circulation of about 20,000; that number had fallen to about 5,000 by 1958.
