The five major assemblies of Skylab were the workshop, airlock, docking adapter, solar observatory and command and service module. The last was the logistics vehicle, docking with the adapter which also contained many experiments. The airlock connected the adapter to the workshop, which provided living and working quarters for the crew. The highly complex solar observatory above the docking adapter was designed for full exposure to the Sun throughout the mission.
