Within two weeks of the announcement of the 1928 Model A Sports Roadster, almost 400,000 people had made deposits to order the car. The car featured the first 40-HP engine, a laminated safety-glass windscreen, and a theft-proof Electrolock ignition system, all of which came as standard equipment.
