Dodge Custom Royal

the top of the line Dodge from 1955 to 1959

The 1955 Dodges were six inches longer than the 1954 models, with low silhouettes, new chrome trim, and wraparound windshields. All Custom Royals came with high-performance "Super Red Ram" hemi V-8's producing 183 hp standard or 193 hp with an optional power kit. In a test, one Custom Royal went from 0-to-60 in 16.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 101.8 mph. A PowerFlite automatic transmission, with a "Flight Control" shifter on the dash, was available, for $178. The sportiest and most luxurious Custom Royals were the Lancer hardtops and convertibles, both of which were introduced on December 17, 1954, a month after other Dodges. A special chrome belt molding, chrome tailfins, and fron fender nameplates made the Lancers distinctive. Only 3,302 Royal Lancer Convertibles were built.
